Abstract

The variations of Madurese intensifying adjective were investigated in this study. This qualitative study uses questionnaire as the main instrument to know the intensifying adjectives used by the participants. The participants were asked to translate some sentences from Indonesian to Madurese based on their daily conversations. The participants are native Madurese speakers aged between of 15-60 years. The study revealed that there were 28 variations of intensifying adjective in Madurese which consist of 17 variations of quality level, 3 variations using a determinerbefore adjective, 4 variations using a determinerafter adjective, 9 variations using a determiner and suffix, and 1 variation using a confix. In the comparative level, it can be divided into equative, comparative, and superlative. There are 5 variations fromcomparison of the equivalent level in Madurese, whilein the comparative level only one variation is done, it is the addition of lebbi ... deri ..., and the superlative level found 5 variations in the intensity of adjectives.

Abstract

This thesis is analyzing promiscuity on the main character. The purpose of this thesis is to find out and understand how it happened, to look for the two causes and impacts of promiscuity that are described in the novel. The main character is the girl is a victim of sexual violence by her own uncle. As a result of the vile things done by her uncle, She was involved in a deviation, namely promiscuity. She did promiscuity with lots of boys. The behavior of multiple partners in sexual relations without a commitment relationship (promiscuity) is rarely found in women. Because in general, women engage in sexual relations on the basis of love and as an expression of feelings of love towards their partners. When found by individual women with promiscuity behavior, it becomes interesting to look more deeply. The theory used to analyze is Theory by Kartono and Mcleish The research methods used in this thesis are qualitative methods and library research. The author collects data from the novel and from several sources of articles, books, and journals that have a relationship with this thesis. The results of this thesis are to reveal the truth that promiscuity can occur in the main character and get causes and impacts in their daily life.

Abstract

This study entitled "An Analysis Of Prejudice As Portrayed In Tayari Jones's Novel An American Marriage". In this study the writers analyzes the forms of prejudice namely stereotype, social distance, and discrimination. This study aims to reveal that literary works reflect to social reality. The object of this study is a novel entitled "An American Marriage". In this study the writers has three problems to discuss: how is the stereotype as form of prejudice portrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage, how is the social distance as form of prejudice portrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage, and how is the discrimination as form of prejudice protrayed in Tayari Jones’s novel An American Marriage. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data is obtained from words, phrases, clauses or sentences that relate to stereotype, social distance and discrimination.

Abstract

This research is aimed to describing the honorific terms and their relationship with the users’ social status. This study focuses on the use of Japanese honorific forms used on emails by the employees in a Japanese company. The method of this research is qualitative-based procedure consisting the techniques of collecting data and the steps of analyzing data. The data are collected from the emails sent and received by Japanese employers and employees in the company confidentially. The relationships between the forms and the social status of the users are identified based on Harada’s theory. As a result, this research proves that the honorific address term sama is used to address socially lower receiver than the sender. Other forms of honorifics found in this study are the performative honorific. It is the dominant type of honorific on the emails. This honorific is used to address the receiver with higher and lower social status than the sender. This research shows that the social status in a working environment is not an absolute factor in the use of honorifics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of figurative language contained in the short story "Tale-Tell Heart". This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The source of the analyzed data comes from several sentences contained in the short story. The analysis technique used is content analysis. The data collected is in the form of words and sentences containing language style obtained through the identification of the short story text "The Tell-Tale Heart". The data was obtained using purposive technique based on the criteria of language style used. The researcher used qualitative research methods to analyze the data by observing the written text contained in the short story "The Tell-Tale Heart". The results showed that there are several figurative languages ​​in the short story "Tale-Tell Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe such as hyperbole, simile, personification and metaphor. Abstract

Speaking is an effective language talent in verbal exchange that is incorporated collectively with the opposite language competencies consisting of listening, writing, and analyzing despite the grammatical, pronunciation, and vocabulary. This article aims to explain the concept of speaking skills, the implementation of picture series to retelling stories for speaking skills, and the advantages and disadvantages of the retelling story technique. The method of collecting data is through library research and documentation. The data were collected from books and manuscripts. The analysis of data used qualitative data analysis using Miles and Huberman's data analysis process by organizing the information, description, and interpretation. The results of this study show that retelling stories are useful for improving students' ability to speak English by using pictures to improve students' speaking skills.
